People's behaviour in coffee shops seems to be contingent on where you are. For instance, only in a small town coffee shop have I ever seen laptops, purses, and other belongings left at a table while someone runs down the street to grab lunch or dinner. Also, only in a small town coffee shop, is a very young child allowed to toddle around on his own only to be greeted by smiles from patrons and staff rather than a stressed-out panic to find who he belongs to.
